SK C&C, Fostering Young Disabled ICT Professionals

32 Graduates Participate in Internship Program with 13 Companies Including SK Infosec

[Asia Economy Reporter Jin-gyu Lee] SK Inc. C&C announced on the 6th that 36 students of the 4th class of the youth disabled ICT expert training program 'SIAT' have completed their education.

SIAT is a program operated by SK C&C in collaboration with the Korea Employment Agency for the Disabled Seoul Customized Training Center to nurture and support employment for disabled ICT experts. It targets disabled high school and university graduates. Among the 67 cumulative graduates from the 1st class in 2017 to the 3rd class last year, 58 succeeded in finding employment.

This year, 32 out of 36 graduates participated in internships, raising expectations for the highest employment achievements to date. The 32 graduates are participating in internship programs at 13 companies including SK C&C, SK Infosec, and SK Construction, and after completing the internship, they undergo a separate evaluation to be hired as full-time employees. The remaining 4 are also awaiting job interviews.

This year’s employment success is attributed to forming the 'SIAT Alliance' with participating companies, faithfully reflecting companies' hiring demands from the selection of trainees to the design and overall operation of the education process. According to corporate demand, four classes were organized for professional ICT job training: web design, software development, information security, and IT office services.

Companies are also highly satisfied with the ICT professional capabilities of the graduates. The 4th class graduates carried out separate team projects, presenting a scenario-based simulated hacking attack and intrusion response program, a big data-based restaurant recommendation site, a web security site, and an internet bookstore site based on responsive web technology that automatically adjusts the screen according to screen size.

SK C&C also awarded a total of 17.3 million KRW in 'Happy IT Scholarships' to all 36 graduates who completed the training. Seok-ho Ahn, Head of SK C&C Happiness Promotion Center, said, "SIAT has become the undisputed top domestic model for nurturing and successfully employing young digital ICT talents." He added, "Next year, we will continue to work with SIAT Alliance companies to discover outstanding disabled youth with dreams in digital ICT and create jobs."
