[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Bong-ju] Professional baseball Samsung Lions' new foreign hitter Daniel Palka (29) has arrived in Korea.

Palka arrived at Incheon International Airport on the afternoon of the 5th, underwent COVID-19 quarantine procedures, and moved to the accommodation prepared by the Samsung team near Daegu. Palka will be in self-quarantine for the next two weeks.

Palka said, "In the U.S., I trained at school facilities around my home. A close friend had the necessary facilities for training, so I consistently practiced hitting and other training with my friend." He added, "I understand that the team has prepared a training schedule for me during the two-week quarantine period. I will diligently follow the schedule and train," through the team.

He continued, "I am friends with Deck McGuire, who played for Samsung in 2019, and I have also contacted Mel Rojas Jr., who plays for kt wiz. I know about the KBO League and Samsung." He said, "Although it is unfortunate that only 10% of the stadium capacity is allowed for spectators currently, I am grateful that fans can come to the baseball stadium. I want to quickly show good plays to the fans who welcome me at the stadium."

Samsung announced Palka's signing on the 29th of last month, stating, "We have agreed on a contract worth a total of $170,000, including a $100,000 annual salary, a $20,000 signing bonus, and $50,000 in incentives. An additional transfer fee of $100,000 will be incurred."

Samsung parted ways with Tyler Saladino, who had a long injury absence due to back pain, and instead signed Palka.

Palka was drafted in the 3rd round by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2013 and began his professional career.

He made his Major League debut on April 26, 2018, wearing the Chicago White Sox uniform, and over two years in the big leagues, he played 154 games with a batting average of .218 (109 hits in 501 at-bats), 29 home runs, 71 RBIs, and an OPS (on-base plus slugging) of 0.710.

Palka's minor league Triple-A career stats include 261 games with a batting average of .262, 54 home runs, 146 RBIs, and an OPS of 0.827.

Palka's main position is corner outfielder (left and right field), and he may also play first base.
