[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Professor Ahn Young-geun of the Department of Cardiology at Chonnam National University Hospital recently received an academic award at the 2020 Spring Scientific Meeting of the Korean Association of Internal Medicine.
According to Chonnam National University Hospital on the 5th, Professor Ahn, recognized as a leading cardiology expert in Korea, was honored with the academic award for his research paper titled "A score for decision making during percutaneous coronary intervention in acute myocardial infarction patients with multivessel disease."
For this study, Professor Ahn's research team analyzed data from 2,630 acute myocardial infarction patients with multivessel coronary artery disease registered at nine major cardiovascular centers nationwide between 2004 and 2009. They examined factors such as age, hypertension, diabetes, Killip classification, left ventricular systolic function, renal function, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein, and non-target lesion location to develop a scoring system.
The results of this study have significant clinical implications as they can be utilized in strategic decision-making for percutaneous coronary intervention.
In particular, the American College of Cardiology, the world's most prestigious authority in cardiology, highly values the significance of this paper.
Professor Ahn Young-geun, the recipient of the academic award, has published over 1,000 research papers to date and has played a leading role in the Korea Acute Myocardial Infarction Registry, the largest single-disease registry project, greatly contributing to the advancement of cardiology in Korea.
Currently serving as the Director of the Cell Regeneration Center at Chonnam National University Hospital, he leads basic and preclinical research to elucidate the pathological characteristics of cardiovascular diseases while dedicating efforts to securing foundational technologies for regenerative therapy. Some of his research findings were presented in a special lecture at the 2020 Japanese Circulation Society meeting, attracting significant attention from the Japanese medical community.
