President Moon: "Youth Are the Main Actors in Youth Policy... Expecting Active Voices"

[Asia Economy Reporter Son Sunhee] President Moon Jae-in said on the 5th, "Youth policies must be created with youth as the main agents to be properly made," and "I congratulate the enactment of the Youth Basic Act through the efforts of young people." The Youth Basic Act, enacted last February, came into effect for the first time on this day.

On the same day, President Moon posted a message titled "I will achieve dreams together with youth" on his Facebook and other social network services (SNS), saying, "I expect young people to actively raise more voices through the Youth Policy Coordination Committee."

Regarding the 'Youth Basic Act,' President Moon said, "It is a promise that the state will share the difficulties that youth had to overcome on their own," adding, "It is the fruit of efforts led by the youth themselves, including the '10,000 signature campaign,' and the accumulation of local governments' youth basic ordinances."

President Moon said, "The burdens placed on the shoulders of youth have changed over time," and "Today's youth face much more complex and diverse issues than before, including jobs, housing, communication, participation, welfare, and quality of life."

He continued, "The government has made multifaceted efforts to solve problems related to housing, finance, jobs, welfare, and education that young people face, but it is still insufficient," and said, "We must build an environment where they can choose their life paths more freely and get back up even if they fail." He emphasized, "Above all, just as we practiced 'freedom for all' while overcoming COVID-19, the belief that we can protect each other is important."

President Moon promised, "With the enforcement of the Youth Basic Act, the government and local governments will systematically promote youth policies, and a legal foundation has been established for youth to participate as key decision-makers in policy-making," adding, "The government will faithfully fulfill the duties stipulated by the law and do its best to ensure that better policies reach more young people in a timely manner."
