‘Jeonnam Rural Experience Tourism’ Gains Popularity as a Family-Centered Individual Travel Destination

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] In the era of COVID-19, rural experiential tourism in Jeonnam, where travelers can enjoy a leisurely and safe trip, is gaining popularity.

Jeonnam boasts mountains, rivers, seas, and cool valleys, making it a rare travel destination for tourists to enjoy beautiful natural scenery along with traditional culture and local food experiences.

Jeonnam Province announced on the 5th that since June, it has completed thorough preparations including safety and hygiene inspections of rural tourism facilities, customer service training, and fire insurance enrollment for safety and facilities to ensure tourists can enjoy safe travel.

Jeonnam’s rural tourism facilities are optimized for safety as family-centered individual travel destinations where social distancing can be maintained in daily life. Visitors can enjoy various experiences such as farming activities like picking plums, peaches, and corn, essential summer water play courses, and drip coffee experiences to enjoy coffee surrounded by nature.

In addition, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs is promoting a rural tourism discount support project that offers a 30% discount (up to 30,000 KRW) on the amount spent by travelers visiting rural tourism sites such as rural experiential recreation villages and tourist farms to revitalize rural tourism, which has been stagnant due to COVID-19.

Those planning or interested in rural tourism during the summer vacation season can participate in the discount event through the websites or apps of three card companies: NongHyup, Shinhan, and Hyundai. Support is provided to the first 60,000 applicants.

Detailed information on rural tourism sites eligible for discounts and how to participate in the discount coupon event can be found on the Rural Travel Welchon website.

Jung Hayong, Director of Agricultural Policy at Jeonnam Province, said, “We hope families can heal together in Jeonnam’s rural areas, which are perfect customized non-face-to-face travel destinations avoiding crowded tourist spots during the peak vacation season.” He added, “We will do our best to manage safety and quarantine at rural tourism facilities and continuously develop support policies including discovering diverse content.”
