The Samsung Grande Dryer has continuously improved usage culture and led the market through relentless innovation in the history of dryers in Korea. Let’s take a closer look at the beginning and completion of the Samsung Grande AI, which has built a new history as the first-largest-only dryer.
- Grande’s Large Capacity Innovation That Rewrote the History of Domestic Dryers
Samsung Electronics, shining as the number one in market share for dryers in Korea, has once again made a mark in the history of dryers. On July 17th, it launched the first-ever and largest capacity 17kg dryer in Korea.
In March 2018, Samsung Electronics introduced the first large-capacity 14kg dryer in Korea. At that time, dryers with an average capacity of around 10kg were common. Therefore, it was not suitable for the laundry habits of Korean consumers who preferred large capacity, leaving some regret. With Samsung Electronics’ first release of a large-capacity dryer, the dryer culture in Korea began to be newly created.
In November of the same year, Samsung continued the large-capacity record by launching the first 16kg dryer in Korea.* Then, in July 2020, it once again renewed the record by releasing the first 17kg dryer in Korea. Samsung Electronics has always considered the voice of consumers as the most important indicator. Based on innovation tailored to consumers, Samsung Grande has risen to become the number one dryer chosen by the most people. *Based on the date of KC safety certification acquisition
- Grande’s Energy Innovation for a Better Planet
The Samsung Grande Dryer has continuously worked to reduce electricity consumption and minimize environmental impact through improved energy efficiency. In March 2020, Samsung Electronics launched the first dryer in Korea with the highest energy efficiency rating of Grade 1. In May, the Grande Dryer AI became the first home dryer to receive the ‘Green Technology Certification,’ overseen by the Korea Institute for Industrial Technology Promotion and evaluated by eight government ministries including the Ministry of Environment and 11 specialized evaluation agencies.
The Grande Dryer AI 17kg model also received the Grade 1 certification. Thus, it is the first and only brand in Korea to complete a lineup of Grade 1 dryers across all capacities of 9kg, 14kg, 16kg, and 17kg. Consumers can now practice energy saving regardless of which product they choose according to their usage environment.
- Grande’s AI Innovation Tailored to Your Most Personal Laundry and Drying Preferences
In January 2020, Samsung Electronics launched the first all-in-one washer and dryer in Korea tailored to consumers’ laundry habits, based on its unique artificial intelligence technology. From ‘All-in-One Control,’ which allows operation from the washer’s control panel to the dryer, to ‘AI Course Linkage,’ which recommends the most suitable drying course according to various washing courses, the laundry process?closest to consumers’ daily lives?was fundamentally innovated. AI technology offers an unprecedented easy and convenient laundry experience through ‘AI Habit Memory,’ which remembers frequently used courses and options to prioritize suggestions, and ‘AI Customized Washing,’ which detects the weight and soil level of laundry to dispense the appropriate amount of detergent and adjust washing time and rinse cycles.
- Focusing on Consumers’ Voices to Become the Dryer Most Loved by Koreans
Samsung Electronics spared no investment in technology development to realize a ‘Korea-tailored’ dryer optimized for Korean consumers and environments. Grande adopted a dual delicate drying method reflecting Korea’s distinct seasonal temperature differences and the common wet-structure laundry room environment. The dual delicate drying method quickly heats air to the appropriate temperature with a heater at the beginning of drying, then uses an inverter heat pump for low-temperature dehumidification. Even in the coldest winter, Grande’s ultra-fast preheating function rapidly warms the air early on for speedy drying.
Koreans prefer natural drying under sunlight. To match this preference, Grande applied the natural drying principle of ‘ventilation’ through technology. Using the same principle as laundry drying well on windy days, abundant air from the 360-degree air holes on the front of the dryer drum’s rear panel quickly and evenly dries large amounts of laundry. Additionally, the maximum internal drum temperature is controlled below 60 degrees Celsius to minimize fabric damage. Noting experimental results that fabric shrinkage doubles when drying temperature rises from 60 to 70 degrees Celsius, Samsung found the magical temperature that minimizes fabric damage.
Listening carefully to the lifestyle of Korean consumers was also important. Washing blankets is not easy for Koreans who mostly live in communal housing such as apartments. Samsung Electronics has continuously released large-capacity dryers tailored to the frequent blanket washing habits of Koreans. By launching the first 17kg dryer, the largest capacity in Korea, Samsung continues to lead the large-capacity market.
- The Number One Dryer, Its Innovation and Challenge Continue
Samsung Electronics has pursued unique technological innovations such as AI technology and customized washing and drying to make consumers’ lives more convenient. Samsung Electronics, which quietly pioneered and led the dryer market in its own way, now continues the challenge of ‘customized appliances’ that fit the most personal preferences. Samsung is opening an era of consumer-centered appliances tailored to individual tastes and lifestyles. The history of Grande AI, which has realized all the expectations we imagined about laundry and drying, is still ongoing.
