[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Hyundai Department Store is launching a subscription service that regularly delivers home-style side dishes in collaboration with famous side dish brands.
On the 5th, Hyundai Department Store announced that it will launch the 'Hyundai Food Hall Side Dish Subscription Delivery Service' at 10 stores in the Gyeongin area, including the Apgujeong Main Store. The subscription delivery service targets consumers who prefer to enjoy a variety of foods rather than cooking at home, as the number of single-person households and dual-income couples increases.
'Side Dish Subscription Delivery' is a subscription service that delivers side dishes sold at Hyundai Department Store once a week for a month. Customers can conveniently receive freshly prepared side dishes cooked on the morning of the delivery day at home, and enjoy different side dishes each week.
The service offers prices 10-30% lower than side dishes sold in stores, providing significant benefits to customers. Customers who wish to use the service can visit the side dish section at each store, select a set consisting of side dishes, soup, and dishes, and make a payment.
Hyundai Department Store has differentiated the service by combining specialty products from all over the country sold at the Food Hall with recipes from famous side dish brands. A representative example is 'Richanbang,' a home-style side dish brand by culinary researcher So-young Lee, located in two stores, Trade Center Store and Cheonho Store. Richanbang offers kimchi made with salted seafood from Hyundai Department Store's traditional food brand 'Myeongin Myeongchon,' as well as stir-fried side dishes using meat and vegetables sold at the Hyundai Food Hall.
Additionally, premium ingredient-based side dish subscription deliveries will be offered at each store, including the 20-year-old side dish brand 'Yehyang' (Apgujeong Main Store, Pangyo Store), fusion side dish brand 'Yemichanbang' (Apgujeong Main Store, Sinchon Store, Jungdong Store, Mia Store, D-Cube City), and home meal replacement brand 'Tasty Nine' (Sinchon Store, Kintex Store).
At Richanbang, which operates subscription delivery at Trade Center Store and Cheonho Store, the A set (120,000 KRW) delivers 6 side dishes and 1 soup weekly for a month (4 weeks), and the B set (160,000 KRW) includes 6 side dishes, 1 soup, and 1 main dish, delivered once a week for 4 weeks. Delivery is made on the day designated by the customer, either Tuesday or Thursday.
The Yemichanbang side dish set (4 side dishes, 1 soup, 2 dishes, 120,000 KRW) is delivered regularly 4 times every Monday or Thursday, and the Yehyang side dish set (6 side dishes, 1 soup, 100,000 KRW) is delivered 4 times every Monday.
The service area covers the entire Seoul area and some metropolitan areas such as Seongnam, Ilsan, and Bucheon, where short-distance delivery is possible from the 10 Hyundai Department Store locations in Gyeongin. Hyundai Department Store plans to expand the number of stores offering side dish subscription delivery and extend delivery areas to major regional cities such as Daegu and Ulsan in the future.
Meanwhile, sales of side dishes at Hyundai Department Store have been rapidly increasing every year. Side dish sales in 2018 increased by 5.3% compared to 2017, and the sales growth rates for last year and this year (January to July) were 8.1% and 16.3%, respectively.
