eBay Korea SmilePay Opens Easy Payment for Domestic Flight Tickets

[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] eBay Korea's simple payment service 'SmilePay' will be applied from the 5th to domestic airline ticket payments for the first time in the domestic e-commerce industry, greatly improving payment convenience.

Previously, simple payment was not available for domestic airline ticket payments on all e-commerce sites except airline websites, causing customers the inconvenience of having to enter card numbers, expiration dates, and other information one by one.

With SmilePay now applied to domestic airline ticket payments, payments can be made by simply entering a 6-digit password on eBay Korea's Gmarket, Auction, and G9 mobile apps and websites, significantly enhancing the customer experience.

Initially, SmilePay payments are available only for domestic routes arriving at destinations served by 'Asiana Airlines' provided by 'JejuDo.com' within the Gmarket, Auction, and G9 sites. Each SmilePay payment offers a constant 0.3% SmileCash cashback benefit, and if the eBay Korea private label credit card (PLCC) 'Smile Card' is registered with SmilePay for payment, an additional 2% SmileCash accumulation benefit is provided without any accumulation limit.

Until the 21st, Gmarket and Auction are also running an event where customers who complete real-time issuance of JejuDo.com domestic airline tickets will be entered into a draw to win prizes such as a 'Jeju Cordelia Hotel accommodation voucher (1 night)' and a 'compact rental car (24 hours)'.

Manager Eunji Lee of eBay Korea said, "It is encouraging that we can dramatically improve the customer payment experience for domestic airline tickets, whose demand has greatly increased in the post-COVID-19 era," adding, "We plan to continuously expand benefits, usage functions, and fare routes when paying for domestic airline tickets with SmilePay in the future."

Meanwhile, 'SmilePay,' first launched by eBay Korea in 2014, is a representative simple payment service in e-commerce with about 14.5 million users. It continues to expand its usage by partnering with a wide range of online and offline merchants including marts, dining, fashion, beauty, leisure, transportation, and education, as well as Gmarket, Auction, and G9.
