[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Seon-ae] HiteJinro is conducting commemorative projects such as supporting independence activists in honor of the 75th anniversary of Liberation Day.

HiteJinro announced on the 5th that it will support the Korean Independence Activists Association with donations collected through an internal donation event and produce facsimiles and Korean translations of the Declaration of Independence to donate as educational materials.

This Liberation Day commemorative project is part of an effort to reflect on August 15 Liberation Day and promote historical awareness. HiteJinro plans to carry out various commemorative projects every year on Liberation Day going forward.

HiteJinro decided to match the donations collected through the internal donation event using a matching grant system and support care projects for surviving independence activists’ families and bereaved families. The internal donation event allows employees and one family member per employee to donate 815 won each and will be held from the 5th to the 15th. The amount of 815 won is a symbolic figure commemorating August 15 Liberation Day.

Additionally, to help young people reflect on the meaning of Liberation Day, HiteJinro will produce facsimiles and Korean translations of the Declaration of Independence as educational materials and donate them to the Korean Independence Activists Association and local children’s centers.

To encourage participation in the Liberation Day commemorative projects, HiteJinro plans to gift Liberation Day commemorative T-shirts to employees’ families who participate in the donation and to the Korean Independence Activists Association.

CEO Kim In-gyu said, “We organized this event to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Liberation Day together with our employees. We hope that our gratitude to the independence activists who devoted themselves to Korea’s independence and the spirit of reflecting on Liberation Day will be well conveyed to the younger generation.”

Meanwhile, HiteJinro is a company formed by the merger of Hite Beer and Jinro. Jinro started in 1924 during the Japanese colonial period to establish schools that would carry on the national spirit. Approaching its 100th anniversary in four years, HiteJinro has conducted campaigns supporting overseas independence movement sites and continues to actively engage in sharing culture activities that care for neighbors in need within local communities.
