[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] On the 5th, no confirmed cases were reported in Gyeongbuk, where 1 to 2 cases of overseas inflow or community infection had been occurring daily for about a week.


According to Gyeongbuk Province on the 5th, as of midnight, the cumulative number of confirmed cases in the Gyeongbuk area remains at 1,363, the same as the previous day. The number of recovered patients and deaths also remains unchanged at 1,295 and 58, respectively. Currently, there are 10 confirmed patients receiving treatment in the Gyeongbuk area. Seven are hospitalized at Andong Medical Center, and three are admitted to other regional hospitals.


In the Gyeongbuk area, concern arose after a 37-year-old woman living in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, visited her aunt’s house in Gyeongsan City with her family on July 29, and she and those around her subsequently tested positive for COVID-19. Following her 4-month-old child, her aunt (55) also tested positive every other day and was transferred to Andong Medical Center.


Her mother was classified as a close contact of a confirmed case in the Gyeonggi area, was instructed to self-quarantine, returned home to Seongnam, and was later confirmed positive there. The community infection confirmed in Gyeongbuk on the 1st was the first in 26 days since the 5th.


Since mid-July, cases of overseas inflow have also been steadily reported in the Gyeongbuk area.


These include a man in his 30s who entered Pohang City from Mexico on July 19, a woman in her 30s who entered Chilgok County from the Philippines on the 20th, a 65-year-old Uzbek man who entered Yeongju City from the UK on the 23rd, a 62-year-old man who entered Andong City from Africa on the 26th, a 47-year-old Uzbek woman who tested positive upon release from self-quarantine at Gyeongju Public Health Center on the 27th, a 44-year-old who returned from the US and tested positive at Yeongcheon Public Health Center on the 28th, and a 50-year-old man who entered from Kazakhstan and tested positive upon release from self-quarantine at Cheongdo County Public Health Center on the 2nd.
