Securing 1.5 Billion KRW in Dispute... Facility Development Alongside Dongdaemun-gu Cultural Center Renewal Project
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongdaemun-gu has stepped up to nurture the second Bong Joon-ho director at the Dapsimni Filming Studio Hill in Dongdaemun-gu, which led the golden age of Korean cinema in the 1960s.
Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol) announced that it will establish a Dongdaemun-gu-style Child and Youth Arts Education Center within the Dongdaemun-gu Cultural Center.
The district was selected for the Seoul Metropolitan Government's small to medium-sized local child and youth arts education center project, targeting areas lacking cultural and artistic infrastructure, securing 1.5 billion KRW in city funds.
A district official stated, "Although we narrowly missed selection last year, we did not give up and formulated a concrete business plan this year and re-applied, resulting in the establishment of a child and youth arts education center in our district."
The creation of the Dongdaemun-gu-style Child and Youth Arts Education Center will proceed alongside the renewal project of the Dongdaemun-gu Cultural Center, scheduled for completion next year.
The Dongdaemun-gu Cultural Center, located at Dapsimni Filming Studio Hill, is currently being remodeled as part of the Dapsimni Movie Street project. The center will house the child and youth arts education center on the basement first floor and the second floor, a film exhibition hall on the first floor, and a community-based village broadcasting center on the third floor.
The Dongdaemun-gu-style Child and Youth Arts Education Center will offer various film production education programs.
In the education room on the basement first floor, the "I am also a Director" program will be held, where participants can learn screenplay writing, equipment usage such as cameras, filming techniques, and editing methods. In the studio on the second floor, participants will shoot broadcasts and short films based on various scenarios in front of actual cameras.
Additionally, completed works will be produced in the editing and recording rooms on the basement first floor, and participants can watch their own films in the cinema installed on the first floor.
Furthermore, the district plans to conduct various media specialized education programs here in collaboration with media-related institutions such as the Viewer Media Center under the Korea Communications Commission.
Yoo Deok-yeol, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, said, "Dapsimni Filming Studio Hill in Dongdaemun-gu is a historic place considered the birthplace of Korean cinema," adding, "We expect that the child and youth arts education center established in this meaningful location will become the cornerstone of K-movie, producing the second and third Bong Joon-ho directors."
