Reborn as 'Eutteum Park' with a Complex Cultural Space and Plaza Park in Line with the 2022 Sillim Line Opening... Restoration of Dorimcheon Ecological Stream and Creation of Bicycle and Walking Paths Connecting Gwanaksan to Yeouido
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee) is carrying out the Gwanaksan Entrance Eutteum Park creation project in line with the completion of the Sillim Line station, which will open at the entrance of Gwanaksan in 2022.
The entrance of Gwanaksan is well connected to public transportation and is frequently visited by many citizens who come to Gwanaksan, but there is a lack of meeting places and cultural rest areas.
Also, the existing aging rest area has seen fewer visitors, and inefficient use of the parking lot space has prevented it from fully serving its role as the entrance to Gwanaksan.
Accordingly, the district is promoting the ‘Gwanaksan Entrance Eutteum Park Creation Project’ to create a rest area and plaza linked with the Sillim Line and a pleasant park environment, aiming to establish it as a representative park of Seoul.
The existing aging rest area will be demolished and remodeled into a two-story building with a total floor area of 2,225㎡, reborn as a complex cultural space equipped with a cafeteria and a book caf?.
Within the cultural space, rest areas and specialized shops will be created to secure cultural rest spaces for visitors and contribute to revitalizing the local economy.
The parking lot site will be transformed into a plaza with green trees planted, creating a space where people want to walk. It will be converted into a large plaza-type space capable of hosting various cultural events and large-scale festivals, providing citizens with a cultural rest area.
Additionally, by rearranging the flow lines such as meeting places, entrances, and bus stops, the convenience of citizens visiting Gwanaksan will be improved.
A total project budget of 7.2 billion won from Seoul city funds will be invested, with design services starting this year and full-scale reconstruction work scheduled to begin next year.
Along with the creation of Eutteum Park, the district is also carrying out various preparations to link Dorimcheon Stream and Gwanaksan, aiming to create a representative healing space of Seoul.
Coinciding with the completion of the Sillim Line, 33.1 billion won of city funds will be invested to restore the unrecovered section of Dorimcheon Stream into an ecological stream with flowing water. Bicycle paths and walking trails will be created, night lighting installed, and the area reborn as a healing space for residents, completing an ecological axis connecting Gwanaksan to Yeouido.
Also, the Gwanaksan Camping Ground, opened this year, is being developed as a nature-friendly camping site linked with various forest experience programs already established, gaining great response from citizens as a natural healing space where the whole family can participate together.
The Gwanaksan Adventure Forest, the largest forest playground in Seoul (14,000㎡) located in Gwanaksan, and the healing forest trail where visitors can walk along the forest path to recover their tired body and mind, are also indispensable representative resting places of Gwanaksan.
In this way, the district plans to create various healing spaces linked with the opening of the Sillim Line, promoting Eutteum Park as a landmark of Gwanak-gu and a representative park of Seoul.
Mayor Park Junhee said, “With the opening of the Sillim Line in 2022, accessibility to Gwanaksan will improve, and many citizens will visit. We expect to create a landmark park worthy of Gwanaksan’s reputation, satisfying visitors’ needs and further contributing to revitalizing the local economy.”
