[Asia Economy Reporters Lee Ji-eun and Lim Chun-han] Jeon Ju-hye, a member of the Future United Party, questioned whether "the National Assembly did its best" regarding the real estate tax law that was passed due to the ruling party's unilateral dominance.
On the 4th, during the opposition debate at the plenary session, Rep. Jeon said about the real estate bill, "Can you confidently say that the bill was made with sincere dedication to the people?" He added, "The bill was made like a three-minute instant meal, bypassing the subcommittee and standing committee, and none of the processes were properly carried out."
He said, "As a judge, the most frustrating and heartbreaking thing is when I have to acquit a defendant who should rightfully be punished due to poorly made laws, or when I have to convict someone who does not deserve punishment," and confessed, "I was shocked when I saw the bills proposed by the lawmakers after entering the National Assembly."
Rep. Jeon said, "It is a raw, unrefined bill like uncooked food. It should be reviewed in the relevant standing committee, go through the Legal Affairs Committee’s systematic and comprehensive review, be refined and matured one by one, and be presented to the public as a finished product," and questioned, "Did the National Assembly do its best regarding the three lease laws and real estate tax laws passed by the National Assembly?" Some ruling party lawmakers responded with "Yes."
Rep. Jeon pointed out, "Regarding lease legislation in the Legal Affairs Committee, Future United Party lawmakers suggested 'forming a subcommittee to review the bill,' but the chair of the Legal Affairs Committee ignored it," and added, "The contents, which caused great confusion in the market, were blocked by numerical logic and were implemented through the Legal Affairs Committee, plenary session, and Cabinet approval without proper review, causing the disappearance of jeonse properties."
He said, "The real estate tax law will likely receive a similar reaction in the market," and added, "When making laws, the interests of those who benefit and those who suffer losses must be considered respectively, and measures to reduce the shock should be prepared, but in this National Assembly, the ruling party showed fully that there is nothing they cannot do if they set their minds to it."
Rep. Jeon criticized, "'Is it a crime to have been a rental business operator?' 'Why am I a real estate speculator?' Can you hear the people's anger?" and said, "The people and history will clearly see and remember this."
