[Asia Economy Reporter Park Cheol-eung] Follow-up bills related to the establishment of the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) have passed the plenary session of the National Assembly.
On the 4th, the National Assembly held a plenary session and approved amendments to the Public Hearing Act, the National Assembly Act, and the establishment of the operating rules for the CIO Chief Candidate Recommendation Committee.
The amendment to the Public Hearing Act, which includes the CIO Chief as a subject of the hearing, was passed with 186 votes in favor, 2 against, and 2 abstentions out of 190 members. The bill designating the Judiciary Committee as the standing committee responsible for the CIO was approved with 185 votes in favor and 3 against out of 188 members.
The establishment of the operating rules for the Candidate Recommendation Committee allows the Speaker of the National Assembly to request committee member recommendations in writing from negotiation groups within a set deadline, and each negotiation group must recommend members within the requested deadline. This was approved with 186 votes in favor and 2 against out of 188 members.
