[Asia Economy Reporter Yujin Cho] Kolon Industries FnC Division (hereinafter Kolon FnC), which operates a men's clothing series, announced the final selected works for the 2020 Warm Heart Film Fund.
The Warm Heart Film Fund is a program newly organized to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the "Warm Heart Campaign," which has supported marginalized cultural and artistic communities by donating part of the proceeds from T-shirt sales collaborated with artists since 2011. Through a public contest, it provides a total production fund of 10 million KRW for two short film and short documentary scripts.
This year, among about 200 submissions, after the first preliminary screening, the final supported works were selected as "Salt" directed by In and "Kkambbak Kkambbak" directed by Im Daseul. "Salt" depicts the daily life of a funeral director son and his father from the older generation who face death differently, while "Kkambbak Kkambbak" tells the story of an elderly person living alone who forms a bond with a robot vacuum cleaner nearing the end of its lifespan.
The Warm Heart Film Fund judging panel included four members: director Hong Ji-young, director Lee Ji-seung, film journalist Lee Hwa-jung, and Choi Jeong-hwa, representative of the Korean Film Producers Association. Director Hong Ji-young, who served as the head judge, commented on "Salt," saying, "It is a work that balances the irony of life and the irony of death. It skillfully blends the cultural and emotional rift experienced by a father who desires purity in life and a son’s generation that treats death as part of daily life within a short time and a simple space. I look forward to a profound reflection and empathy on 'death' being well realized in the film."
Regarding "Kkambbak Kkambbak," she also stated, "This work confronts the painful reality that the sadness of old age lies not in loneliness but in the loss of existence. However, throughout the work, the creator does not lose a warm and hopeful perspective."
Going forward, the Warm Heart Film Fund plans to support the production team with staff uniform series clothing, submit the films to domestic and international film festivals, and produce making-of videos and interviews with the production team on the series’ YouTube channel. Additionally, screenings will be promoted through online film-related platforms such as Naver and Watcha Play.
