"'iPhone 12' 6.1-inch 2 Models to Launch First"

[Asia Economy Reporter Jinju Han] Apple has chosen a 'staggered release' strategy, launching first the two 6.1-inch models among the iPhone 12 series.

On the 3rd (local time), according to Taiwan's IT specialized media Digitimes, iPhone mainboard suppliers have started shipping parts for the 6.1-inch models, and the remaining 5.4-inch and 6.7-inch models are expected to begin shipping at the end of August.

Digitimes explained, "The shipment volume of PCBs for iPhones will reach its peak about 2 to 4 weeks later than usual," adding, "Suppliers do not expect the shipment volume to peak until the fourth quarter but are not concerned about the shipping delays."

Considering the production schedules of partners, it appears that the iPhone 12 series will be released in stages, two models at a time. Due to delays in parts supply and development caused by the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), the release is expected to be later than usual, after October. Apple also stated after its earnings announcement that "a late September release is difficult, and the launch will be a few weeks later."

Apple will hold a new product unveiling event in September to reveal the iPhone 12 series. All four models?from the low-priced 5.4-inch model, the 6.1-inch iPhone 12, the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro, to the 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max?will support 5G. The Max and Pro models will be equipped with triple cameras, while the other two models, 5.4-inch and 6.1-inch, will have dual cameras. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo analyzed that Apple will reduce costs by excluding the wired earphones 'EarPods' and charging power adapter, which were previously bundled in the iPhone 12 package.
