[Asia Economy Reporter Chunhee Lee] Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) has been selected as an excellent company in labor-management culture.
On the 3rd, LH announced that it was selected as an 'Excellent Company in Labor-Management Culture for 2020' hosted by the Ministry of Employment and Labor and received a certification plaque. The Excellent Company in Labor-Management Culture certification is a system that selects companies that practice social responsibility through cooperative labor-management relations. LH was the only first-tier public enterprise selected this year.
LH was launched in 2009 through the merger of Korea Land Corporation and Korea Housing Corporation, with existing labor unions operating individually. In 2015, a new labor union centered on employees hired after the merger was established, resulting in a total of three multiple labor unions operating.
Since then, through the formation of the 'Labor-Labor-Management Consultative Body,' workshops, joint labor-management meetings, and all-employee discussions, both labor and management have steadily built mutual trust and formed a consensus for labor union integration. Eventually, in 2018, through an all-employee referendum, a high approval rate of over 94% led to the launch of a single labor union, creating 'One LH.'
With the launch of the single labor union, labor-labor conflicts disappeared, and as a result of LH labor and management working together to enhance social value and improve workers' rights, they received favorable evaluations in this Excellent Company in Labor-Management Culture selection.
So far, LH labor and management have taken the lead in creating non-discriminatory jobs by establishing fair standards and converting 2,976 non-regular workers to regular positions. They have also made various efforts to improve workers' rights, such as introducing flexible working systems due to reduced working hours, installing additional daycare centers, and expanding parental leave to achieve work-family balance.
Additionally, through the LH Human Rights Center, a system for preventing human rights violations such as workplace harassment and sexual harassment and for prompt victim relief has been established. The Safety and Health Center has been installed in regional headquarters nationwide to support employee health management and stress healing, creating a work environment where employees can work with peace of mind.
Recently, through close communication between President Byun Chang-heum and the labor union chairman, emergency housing support such as investment expansion and rent reduction to overcome the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) has been implemented.
Jang Chung-mo, Head of LH Management Innovation Headquarters, said, "We will continue to present a new vision for labor-management relations based on trust between labor and management and fulfill the social responsibilities of public institutions to work for a better future for the people."
