[Asia Economy (Uijeongbu) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The first phase of the Hanam Line extension of Subway Line 5, connecting Hanam Misa District and Pungsan-dong in Gyeonggi-do with downtown Seoul, will open on the 8th.
The first phase of the Hanam Line is a railway line running a total of 4.7 km with three stations from Sangil-dong Station, the terminus of Line 5, passing through Misa Station to Hanam Pungsan Station. Construction began in 2015, and it is opening after five years and five months.
The trains consist of one 8-car set, operating at intervals of about 10 minutes during rush hours and 12 to 24 minutes during off-peak times. The average speed, including station stops, is approximately 40 km/h.
Operating hours start from 5:35 AM on weekdays from Hanam Pungsan Station until 12:01 AM the next day. On weekends, service runs from 5:38 AM to 11:40 PM. The basic fare, based on transportation cards, is 1,250 KRW for adults, 720 KRW for teenagers, and 450 KRW for children.
The province expects that the opening of this first phase will make commuting much easier for residents of Hanam who work in downtown Seoul.
It takes 6 minutes and 10 seconds from Sangil-dong Station to Hanam Pungsan Station, and by transferring at Cheonho Station and Jamsil Station, it is possible to reach Gangnam Station from Hanam Pungsan Station within 47 minutes.
In particular, Misa Station, located in the central commercial area, has a transfer center with parking for 820 bicycles and 144 multipurpose lockers where smart mobility devices and goods can be freely stored.
At Hanam Pungsan Station, specialized facilities have been prepared to revitalize the station, including the creation of a 'Sunken Plaza' that can be used as a cultural space for local residents for music performances, exhibitions, and more.
The opening ceremony will be held at 10 AM on the 7th in the Misa Station concourse. Considering social distancing measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, anyone can watch the opening event via the Hanam Pungsan Station concourse or on YouTube.
The construction of the Hanam Line is a project to build a total railway length of 7.7 km and five new stations from Sangil-dong in Gangdong-gu, Seoul to Changwoo-dong in Hanam, Gyeonggi-do. This is the first metropolitan railway project where a metropolitan local government has taken charge from ordering to construction.
The second phase of the Hanam Line (Hanam Pungsan Station to Hanam Geomdansan Station) will open at the end of this year after comprehensive railway test operations.
