Domestic 77,381 Units · Overseas 235,716 Units... Overseas Sales Decrease by 20%
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] Hyundai Motor Company announced on the 3rd that it sold 313,097 units worldwide in July (77,381 units domestically, 235,716 units overseas). Compared to the same period last year, domestic sales increased by 28.4%, while overseas sales decreased by 20.8%.
Last month, Hyundai sold 77,381 units in the domestic market, a 28.4% increase compared to the same period last year. Sedans led the performance with the Grandeur (including 3,618 hybrid models) selling 14,381 units, followed by the Avante with 11,037 units, and the Sonata (including 627 hybrid models and 1,644 LF models) with 5,213 units. In total, sedans recorded sales of 31,209 units.
Recreational Vehicles (RVs) sold a total of 19,185 units, including 6,252 units of the Santa Fe, 6,071 units of the Palisade, and 2,922 units of the Kona (including 420 hybrid models and 999 electric vehicle models).
Commercial vehicles recorded 13,647 units for small commercial vehicles, combining the Grand Starex and Porter, and 2,221 units for large commercial vehicles, combining medium and large buses and trucks.
The premium brand Genesis showed strong popularity with 6,504 units of the G80 (including 40 DH models) sold. This was followed by 3,009 units of the GV80, 1,117 units of the G90, and 489 units of the G70, totaling 11,119 units sold.
On the other hand, the overseas market continued to struggle. Overseas sales in July decreased by 20.8% compared to the previous year due to reduced production at overseas plants caused by demand contraction from the COVID-19 pandemic.
A Hyundai Motor official stated, “To overcome the unprecedented global crisis, we are preparing regional countermeasures and will strive for early normalization,” adding, “We will continue proactive risk management efforts to minimize negative impacts and secure a stable supply chain.”
