Following Last Year's '1st Women-Safe One-Room Certification,' This Year's '2nd Women-Safe One-Room Certification Ceremony' Held
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee) is promoting the ‘Women’s Safe One-Room Certification Project’ to create a safe residential environment that women living alone can trust.
Following an incident last year in Sillim-dong where a woman living alone experienced a home intrusion, concerns among single women households have increased. To alleviate fears of home intrusion and enhance the image of facility safety, the project certifies safe one-room units that women can trust.
The certification targets one-room units located in areas densely populated by women living alone. When the building owner or resident requests certification, Gwanak-gu and the Gwanak Police Station jointly conduct an on-site inspection.
The inspection covers a total of 49 items, including ▲management and operation system ▲landscaping and lighting ▲security devices on entrance doors ▲installation of emergency bells. If more than 80% of the criteria are met, the unit is certified as a Safe One-Room and awarded a certification plaque.
On the 30th of last month, Gwanak-gu and the Gwanak Police Station held a certification ceremony at a one-room unit in Seorim-dong, which was certified as the ‘2nd Women’s Safe Certified One-Room’ following the on-site inspection results.
The ceremony was attended by officials from the Gwanak Police Station, building owners, and residents. It included a briefing on the progress of the ‘Women’s Safe One-Room Certification Project,’ unveiling of the certification plaque, and a tour of the facilities.
After certification, building owners must continue to manage and improve facilities to ensure the safety of female tenants, while the Gwanak Police Station plans to strengthen patrols in nearby areas and maintain an emergency contact system.
Additionally, the district will collaborate with the National One-Room Association to continuously conduct crime prevention inspections and facility improvements, aiming to certify the 3rd and 4th one-room units in the future.
Mayor Park Junhee stated, “We expect voluntary facility improvements from the private sector through this Women’s Safe One-Room Certification Project,” adding, “We will continue to strive to create a safe residential environment that reduces daily anxieties felt by women living alone and build a women-friendly city based on shared safety.”
