SK Telecom Launches Group Video Call Service 'Midas'

[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Cho] SK Telecom announced on the 3rd that it will launch ‘MeetUs,’ an ultra-high-definition group video call service.

Developed based on the T Phone video call service ‘Callar,’ MeetUs supports video calls with up to 100 participants. It features functions for non-face-to-face education as well as group video meetings. It includes presenter mode that allows displaying the screen of one participant, text chat function for smooth communication among participants other than the presenter, screen sharing function to share class or meeting materials, whiteboard function with annotation capability, and Pin Video function that designates a specific participant to share their screen.

The mobile screen displays up to 4 people, and PC and tablet screens display up to 8 people. If the number of participants exceeds the display limit, the system detects the speaker’s voice and automatically displays the person speaking on the screen. When using 5G, it supports up to Quad HD quality. Designed with a speaker recognition-based hybrid SFU method, it provides high-quality video and audio while using only about 50% of the data compared to existing services.

SK Telecom prepared this service so that customers can enjoy group video call experiences as if meeting and talking anytime and anywhere even in the untact era. To enhance security, encryption is applied to all sections where group calls operate, and plans are in place to introduce services with security-specialized features in the future.

The MeetUs mobile version can be used through mobile phone number authentication, and PC and tablet versions can be logged in using a T ID authenticated on mobile. After logging in, contacts and meeting records are synchronized across mobile, PC, and tablet versions via the T ID, allowing group video calls in the same environment anytime and anywhere.

The MeetUs mobile and tablet versions are available for download from One Store, Play Store, and App Store, and the PC version can be downloaded from the MeetUs website (www.meet-us.co.kr). Currently, the PC version is only available for Windows OS, and a Mac OS version will be released in September.

Hyun-A Lee, head of SK Telecom’s AI Service Division, said, “We prepared the group video call service MeetUs to be conveniently used for non-face-to-face education and collaboration in the post-COVID environment,” adding, “We will continue to add features required by each industry as well as improve user convenience.”
