[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Juhyung] Former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk has filed a lawsuit against Kim Sanghyun, CEO of Gukdae Tteokbokki, for spreading false information about him.
On the 2nd, Cho posted on his Facebook, "I have filed a criminal complaint against CEO Kim Sanghyun for defamation by false facts and completed the complainant investigation," adding, "Such irresponsible behavior by the CEO of a famous company must bear legal responsibility."
The issue arose from a post Kim made on his Facebook on September 24 last year. In the post, Kim claimed, "Cho Kuk received money and assistance from the Chinese Communist Party through Co-Link." He also used hashtags like '#MoonJaeinIsCommunist' and '#CoLinkBelongsToChoKuk,' saying, "I hope the message spreads even more."
At the time, Kim added, "If this is a problem because it is unverified, please sue me," and "If I have to go to jail, I will gladly go."
Regarding the post, Cho pointed out, "He mocked the law while being aware that his post was based on unverified facts."
Furthermore, Cho stated, "I have also completed the complainant investigation against those who posted false defamatory writings about me, my family, and my late father on their blogs, as well as YouTube operators who placed false posts on the YouTube homepage and titles."
Earlier, on the 28th of last month, Cho had revealed on his Facebook that he had filed criminal complaints for defamation by false facts against Channel A reporter A and TV Chosun reporter B, respectively.
They reported that just before the June 13 local elections in 2018, when Cho was serving as the Senior Secretary for Civil Affairs at the Blue House, he visited a temple in Ulsan with Song Cheolho, then the Democratic Party candidate for Ulsan mayor, and asked those around to support candidate Song.
