Seongbuk-gu Daycare Center Meal and Hygiene Full Inspection Results 'Overall Excellent'

Seongbuk-gu Daycare Center Meal and Hygiene Full Inspection Results 'Overall Excellent'

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) has alleviated parents' concerns through rapid hygiene inspections of daycare center meals.

Seongbuk-gu recently completed hygiene inspections of meals at 162 daycare centers from the 10th to the 24th of last month to prevent infectious diseases such as food poisoning in young children with weakened immunity during the summer, in connection with the outbreak of enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli infections at kindergartens in other regions.

This inspection targeted facilities with fewer than 50 meal recipients within Seongbuk-gu. Sixteen hygiene specialists from the Seongbuk-gu Children's Meal Management Support Center and childcare staff from the Women's and Family Affairs Department conducted focused inspections in pairs, covering overall meal management to prepare for summer food poisoning and other issues.

The main inspection items included ▲ personal hygiene management of cooking staff and childcare teachers ▲ appropriateness of facility and equipment management such as refrigerator temperature and availability of disinfection facilities ▲ compliance with expiration dates and management of food ingredients including reuse of food ▲ whether meal plans and ingredient inspections were conducted, focusing on the safety of meals for young children.

As a result of the inspection, most daycare centers showed excellent meal management considering the growth of young children through organic cooperation and guidance with the Seongbuk-gu Children's Meal Support Center, and overall meal and hygiene management was excellent.

However, some daycare centers were pointed out for cases such as ▲ failure to indicate the origin of ingredients ▲ improper storage of food ingredients ▲ delayed health checkups for childcare staff. Minor issues were addressed on-site with administrative guidance and corrective actions completed.

Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, stated, “We will continue to conduct frequent inspections of daycare centers to prevent infectious diseases such as food poisoning that may occur during the summer in advance, and do our best to create a childcare environment where young children are safe and parents can trust and leave their children.”
