According to the May 18 Memorial Foundation on the 31st, the Korea Communications Commission took deletion measures on 29 items, including YouTube videos and the termination of the Jijangman TV account.
These videos contained content that insulted the victims of the May 18 Democratic Movement by claiming North Korean military involvement, mocked and disparaged May 18 democratic merit recipients.
The Korea Communications Standards Commission announced plans to strengthen cooperation with overseas operators to prevent the distribution of illegal and harmful information abroad through an international cooperation inspection team.
On June 29, the KCC also secured cooperation from YouTube to delete 85 videos that distorted the history of the May 18 Democratic Movement and contained discriminatory and belittling content.
A representative from the May 18 Memorial Foundation stated, “We will strengthen monitoring of distortions and fake news related to the May 18 Democratic Movement,” and added, “We plan to pursue legal actions along with deletion requests to the Korea Communications Standards Commission.”
