Operation of 'Codinga Nolza! Summer Camp' in Gangseo-gu, Seoul

Operation of 'Codinga Nolza! Summer Camp' in Gangseo-gu, Seoul

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Noh Hyun-song) is operating the "Let's Play Coding! Summer Camp" to develop logical thinking and creativity in local elementary school students.

Coding refers to the process of writing commands for a computer in a language that the computer can understand. Since 2019, coding has been included as a regular subject in elementary schools, reflecting the growing importance and interest in coding.

In line with this social trend, the district has prepared the "Elementary School Students Coding Summer Camp" again this year.

The recruitment target is local elementary school students from grades 3 to 6, with 15 spots available on a first-come, first-served basis. The tuition fee is 5,000 KRW.

The application period is until August 13, and applications can be made through the Gangseo Lifelong Learning Center website.

This education program will be held over four days from August 18 to 21 at Seoul Media Graduate University, where professors will guide students through ▲algorithmic thinking ▲coding theory and practice ▲game planning, covering both theory and practice in a total of four sessions.

Last year, students attended classes for only one day by selecting their desired subjects, but this year, to provide more in-depth education, classes will be held over four days.

Based on theoretical lessons, the goal of this education is for students to go through basic and advanced stages of game development, think about algorithms on their own, and plan simple games.

In addition, to prevent COVID-19 infection, safety rules will be strictly followed during the education. Students must have their temperature checked before class, sit one per row, wear masks, and attend classes accordingly.

Mayor Noh Hyun-song said, "I hope this coding education will be a time for students to discover their own areas of interest," and added, "I expect that future talents who will lead the 4th Industrial Revolution era will emerge from the students attending this education."
