President Moon Appoints Kim Dae-ji, Deputy Commissioner of the National Tax Service, as Commissioner (Comprehensive)

[Asia Economy reporters Jeongmin Ryu and Seonhee Son] President Moon Jae-in has nominated Kim Dae-ji, Deputy Commissioner of the National Tax Service, as the new Commissioner of the National Tax Service. Yoon Jong-in, Vice Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, has been nominated as the Chairperson of the Personal Information Protection Commission at the ministerial level. Choi Young-jin, Head of the Support Group for the 4th Industrial Revolution Committee, has been nominated as the Vice Chairperson of the Personal Information Protection Commission.


Kang Min-seok, spokesperson for the Blue House, announced these personnel decisions based on this framework during a briefing at the Press Center on the 30th. Spokesperson Kang stated, "President Moon has nominated Deputy Commissioner Kim Dae-ji as the candidate for Commissioner of the National Tax Service. The appointment will proceed after a confirmation hearing at the National Assembly."


Spokesperson Kang explained, "Candidate Kim Dae-ji has over 20 years of experience working at the National Tax Service, possessing extensive field experience. He is recognized for his comprehensive understanding of national tax administration, as well as his planning and execution capabilities. It is expected that he will enhance fairness and transparency in national taxation, boost public trust, and invigorate the livelihood economy through innovation in tax administration."

Candidate Kim Dae-ji for the new Commissioner of the National Tax Service graduated from Naeseong High School in Busan and majored in Business Administration at Seoul National University. Born in 1967, he passed the 36th Administrative Examination. He has served as Commissioner of the Busan Regional Tax Office, Director of the Investigation Division 1 at the Seoul Regional Tax Office, Director of the Investigation Division 2 at the Central Regional Tax Office, and Head of the Real Estate Transaction Management Division at the National Tax Service.


Yoon Jong-in, Chairperson of the Personal Information Protection Commission (ministerial level), who passed the 31st Administrative Examination, was born in 1964. He graduated from Sangmun High School in Seoul, majored in Western History at Seoul National University, earned a master's degree in Public Administration from Seoul National University, and obtained a Ph.D. in Public Administration from the University of Georgia, USA. Chairperson Yoon has served as Vice Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, Standing Commissioner of the Personal Information Protection Commission, Director General for Local Autonomy and Decentralization at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and Director General for Government Innovation Organization at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.


Spokesperson Kang said, "On August 5, the newly integrated Personal Information Protection Commission, which consolidates personal information functions previously dispersed across various agencies including the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, will be launched as a ministerial-level organization under the Prime Minister. The new Chairperson Yoon is an expert in administrative innovation. Notably, during his tenure as Standing Commissioner of the Personal Information Protection Commission, he contributed to improving the personal information protection system and strengthening international cooperation in line with the government's agenda on the spread of new technology equipment."


Spokesperson Kang added, "It is expected that Chairperson Yoon will quickly stabilize the newly launched commission, elevate the level of personal information protection in Korea, and harmoniously lead both the protection and utilization of personal information."


Choi Young-jin, Vice Chairperson of the Personal Information Protection Commission (vice ministerial level), who passed the 36th Administrative Examination, was born in 1967. He graduated from Busanjin High School, majored in Geography at Seoul National University, earned a master's degree in Public Administration from Seoul National University, and obtained a master's degree in Public Administration from the University of Wisconsin, USA. He has served as Head of the Support Group for the 4th Industrial Revolution Committee, Senior Administrative Officer and Science and Technology Advisor at the Presidential Secretariat, Director of the National Radio Research Agency at the Ministry of Science and ICT, and Director General of Investigation and Planning at the User Protection Bureau of the Korea Communications Commission.


Spokesperson Kang evaluated, "Vice Chairperson Choi Young-jin is an expert in the information, communication, and broadcasting fields, known for his professionalism and strong execution skills, and is recognized for completing assigned tasks thoroughly. He is the right person to develop and successfully implement the personal information protection system in response to the 4th Industrial Revolution era."
