[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] Since 2015, LS Group has emphasized 'Digital Transformation' as the group's research and development and future preparation strategy, aiming to transform from a traditional manufacturing sector into a digital and eco-friendly company by integrating artificial intelligence (AI), big data, and smart energy technologies.
Since January last year, LS has established a Future Innovation Division within its holding company, with Chairman Koo Ja-eun of LS Mtron joining the effort to actively promote the execution of the group's key future strategy, 'Digital Transformation,' focusing on creating synergy among affiliates and nurturing talent.
LS Cable & System is currently supplying submarine cables for offshore wind power projects, having secured orders worth a total of 700 billion KRW from Taiwan, the United States, and the Netherlands from last year through this year, amid the global expansion of the eco-friendly energy offshore wind power plant development and submarine cable market.
LS ELECTRIC is accelerating its next-generation power grid microgrid business, which enables small regions to be self-sufficient in power, by leveraging its technology in power and automation fields combined with information and communication technology (ICT) to offer converged smart solutions.
LS-Nikko Copper is promoting the ODS (Onsan Digital Smelter), a smart factory system that connects the entire production process at the Onsan smelter via communication for automated processing. The goal is to transform the Onsan smelter, which boasts the world's second-largest production volume, into the first global smelter that enhances production efficiency and stability while ensuring safety and environmental protection.
LS Mtron is targeting the 'smart farm' market by developing remotely controlled tractors. They have developed electronic steering and braking systems for tractors that were previously mechanically operated, and in October last year, completed a demonstration of remotely controlling a '5G tractor' on an actual farm in collaboration with LG Uplus.
Eco-friendly LPG specialist E1 has intensified its entry into the renewable energy sector as a power producer by establishing a 'Renewable Private Power Generation Business Team' this year and completing an 8MW solar power plant in Jeongseon, Gangwon Province, in June.
