[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Woo-kwon] Star YouTuber Jjuyang visited Yokji Gomewon, which produces and sells 'Gourmet Won Donut,' officially designated as the premium specialty product 'Haepungnaeum' by Tongyeong City, Gyeongnam, joining the promotion of local specialties. Jjuyang is a YouTuber with over 2.76 million subscribers and is currently living for a month on Yokji Island in Tongyeong.


According to Tongyeong City on the 30th, Jjuyang said she came because she really wanted to try the famous Gourmet Won Donut of Yokji Island and visited Seomuro Cafe, the donut sales place, on the 26th. She quickly ate six sweet potato donuts and an iced sweet potato latte on the outdoor deck that day and gave a thumbs up.


Jjuyang exclaimed, "The sea views on both sides seen from the open-air cafe deck are so beautiful," and added, "It is a must-visit spot when you visit Yokji Island." This place selling Gourmet Won Donuts overlooks both Hallyeohaesang National Park and Yokji Port, attracting not only family tourists but also couples.


Gourmet Won Donut is made by mixing premium Yokji Island sweet potatoes, grown with strong sea breeze and sunlight in the island's natural vegetation, with kelp rich in fucoidan and apples high in dietary fiber through a fumigation and extraction method. The company boasts that the natural sugars in the sweet potatoes and apples enhance the texture while providing a unique taste that is not too sweet.


Most regular flour donuts are fried in oil without a fermentation process after kneading the dough, but 'Gourmet Won Donut' uses patented technology that involves boiling and straining the Yokji Island sweet potatoes for a long time, then repeatedly baking and frying them in a high-temperature oven and fryer. Because of this, unlike flour donuts fried only in oil, it absorbs less oil, making it less greasy and more savory, resulting in a differentiated taste. It is also characterized by lower calories and fat content and higher fiber than flour donuts.


The sweet potato latte also differentiates its taste and nutrition from regular sweet potato lattes by using the bean paste inside the donut, which is mixed with Yokji sweet potatoes, kelp, and apples using the patented method.


Sim Myeong-ran, director of the Tongyeong Agricultural Technology Center supporting Yokji sweet potato farms, welcomed, "We warmly welcome star YouTuber Jjuyang who visited during these difficult times of prolonged COVID-19," and added, "In these days when YouTube channels are the trend, we hope Jjuyang's visit will greatly help promote local specialties including Yokji sweet potatoes."
