[Golf Topic] Lopez 'First LPGA Tour Player Confirmed with COVID-19'

[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] ○… Gaby Lopez (Mexico, photo) has tested positive for the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).

On the 30th (Korean time), the US Golf Channel reported, "Lopez tested positive for COVID-19 and will not be able to participate in this week's Drive On Championship," adding, "She is the first player on the US Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour to be diagnosed with COVID-19." Lopez is a two-time champion, having won the 2018 Blue Bay and this January's Diamond Resorts Championship. The positive result was confirmed through a COVID-19 test conducted at Inverness Golf Club, the tournament venue.

Lopez said, "I am relieved that I will not infect others," and added, "My current physical condition is good, and I will return to the tour safely through self-isolation." She is expected to be quarantined for at least 10 days, making it impossible to participate in the Marathon Classic starting on August 6. The LPGA Tour was suspended last year in February after the Australian Women's Open due to concerns over the spread of COVID-19, and will resume the season on the night of the 31st with the Drive On Championship after about five months.
