3 Road Slope Failures and 109.3 Hectares of Crops Flooded

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hong Jaehee] Although the heavy rain warnings for 8 cities and counties in the Jeonbuk region have been lifted, various parts of the province continue to suffer from rain damage due to concentrated heavy rainfall.
According to Jeonbuk Province on the 29th, as of 3 PM, heavy rain advisories remain in effect for 6 cities and counties including Gunsan, Namwon, Gimje, Sunchang, Gochang, and Buan, while warnings for the other cities and counties have been lifted.
The cumulative rainfall from the previous day until 2 PM averages 72.4 mm, with heavy rain recorded in Jinan at 130.5 mm, Buan at 125.7 mm, and Sunchang at 108.3 mm.
Additionally, Namwon received 92 mm, Jangsu 86.4 mm, Gimje 84 mm, Jeonju 61.4 mm, Imsil 57 mm, Muju 55.5 mm, Iksan 50.5 mm, Gochang 46.2 mm, Wanju 44.8 mm, Jeongeup 44.8 mm, and Gunsan 27.6 mm.
Due to the rain since the previous day, as of 4 PM, reported damage includes 3 cases of road slope collapse and 2 cases of crop flooding covering 109.3 hectares.
At around 8 AM, the road slope collapsed on National Road No. 17 in Sang-gwan-myeon, Wanju-gun (Yongam-ri 666); at 8:50 AM, on Provincial Road No. 714 in Guui-myeon, Wanju-gun (Andeok-ri San 216-4); and at 9:20 AM, on Provincial Road No. 745 in Sindeok-myeon, Imsil-gun (Sucheon-ri 960-2).
Emergency repairs have been completed on National Road No. 17 in Sang-gwan-myeon and Provincial Road No. 745 in Sindeok-myeon, but repairs are still underway on Provincial Road No. 714 in Guui-myeon. Drainage is also in progress in the flooded crop areas.
A Jeonbuk Province official stated, “After additional investigation of the damaged facilities, we will establish emergency repair and restoration plans.”
