[Asia Economy Reporter Onyu Lim] Regarding the report that the Seoul Metropolitan Government is promoting measures to expand housing supply such as the 'Construction of 5,000 rental housing units in Sangam DMC,' Kim Ki-deok, a member of the Seoul Metropolitan Council (Democratic Party·Mapo 4), claimed on the 29th that "it has been confirmed to be untrue."
After encountering the related report, Councilor Kim held an emergency meeting on the afternoon of the 28th with the head of the Seoul Housing Policy Division and the head of the Industrial Hub Development Team responsible for DMC development, and explained that upon inquiring about the situation at the meeting, he received an answer that it was not true.
Councilor Kim emphasized, recalling that in the past, when a developer tried to build apartments on the site of a future DMC landmark high-rise building, he opposed it and had it withdrawn, stating, "Under no circumstances should housing be sold or rental housing constructed, betraying promises made to citizens."
Recently, as a measure to expand urban housing supply, there has been a proposal to supply housing instead of commercial high-rise buildings on a landmark site of 37,262㎡ in the Sangam-dong 1645 and 1646 areas.
It is known that until shortly before the death of former Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon, the political advisory line, including policy advisors, was planning to develop DMC and the area inside the Four Major Gates at high density and had even prepared plans to announce this as an official policy.
Councilor Kim added, "Please actively cooperate so that development proceeds quickly with the facilities desired by local residents."
In relation to this, a petition has also been posted on the Blue House National Petition website requesting that the landmark site be developed according to the original plan.
