Gangdong-gu Distributes Summer Masks to 4,922 National Veterans

Sending Application Notices to Non-Applicants of Veterans Allowance to Eliminate Blind Spots in Veterans Allowance Coverage

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) distributed domestically produced summer masks to 4,922 national veterans, including independence patriots, democracy patriots, and war veterans, in preparation for the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and summer heatwaves.

The district prepared the masks to ensure the safety and health of the mostly elderly national veterans who have difficulty purchasing masks. Each of the 4,922 national veterans residing in Gangdong-gu received a package containing 10 summer masks sent by mail.

The mask packages included messages of gratitude and respect for the national patriots and veterans' families who dedicated themselves to the country, adding special significance.

Additionally, for those who have not applied for veterans' allowances, application guides for various veterans' allowances such as the Seoul City War Honor Allowance and Gangdong-gu Veterans' Welfare Allowance were sent together.

This measure aims to address the blind spots in veterans' allowance recipients by providing prior guidance on allowance applications, as the number of new residents in Gangdong-gu has surged due to large-scale reconstruction projects, leading to some applicants missing out due to lack of information.

Lee Jeong-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, stated, "We hope the summer masks distributed this time will help national patriots and veterans' families have a healthy summer," and added, "We will continue the spirit of patriotism that overcame past national crises and wisely overcome COVID-19 together with residents."

Applications for veterans' allowances can be made by visiting the local community service center or the Welfare Policy Division of Gangdong-gu Office. After verifying eligibility such as duplicate receipt of allowances and residency conditions, selected recipients will receive the allowance on the 25th of each month.
