Changwon City Holds Local Autonomy and Decentralization Academy Reflecting Future Vision of Special City Status

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Choi Hyun-joo] Changwon City in Gyeongnam announced on the 27th that it has completed the first half of the 2020 Changwon City Autonomy and Decentralization Academy education schedule, which was promoted to build public consensus for the realization of a special-status city, with Myeonggok-dong in Uichang-gu and Gyeonghwa-dong in Jinhae-gu as the final locations.

The 2020 Changwon City Autonomy and Decentralization Academy was conducted over a total of 14 sessions targeting about 1,300 participants, including the "Regional Academies" for the five district offices within the city and the "Visiting Academies" for the towns and neighborhoods.

The city is preparing the second half of the Autonomy and Decentralization Academy education following the first half, and is also considering holding a "Talk Concert" to more broadly share the vision of the special-status city with citizens, depending on improvements in the COVID-19 situation.

It is expected that once Changwon Special-status City is realized, it will not only enable proactive responses to increasing welfare and administrative demands through expanded autonomy and decentralization such as special government affairs and financial privileges, but also greatly contribute to the overall enhancement of the city's brand.
