'Peninsula' Box Office Momentum Slows... Sales Share Remains High
Only Six Films Attracted Over 10,000 Viewers
The number of movie theater audiences over the weekend decreased by about half.
According to the Korea Film Council's integrated ticketing system on the 27th, the number of moviegoers who visited theaters last weekend (24-26) was 761,077. This is 564,689 fewer than the third weekend of this month (17-19), which had 1,325,766 visitors.
This is due to the decline in the box office momentum of the movie Peninsula. It attracted 595,121 viewers across 2,103 screens (30,310 showings). This is a 51.4% (630,352) decrease compared to the 1,225,473 viewers during the third weekend of this month. The revenue share remained high at 80.8%. 78.2% of the total audience watched this film. The seat occupancy rate was 11.7%, ranking third among movies with over 10,000 seats secured. The cumulative audience reached 2,862,894.
Aladdin, re-released about a year after its initial release, attracted 44,244 viewers on 549 screens (4,794 showings). Other movies that attracted over 10,000 viewers include Bombshell: The Power of Disclosure That Changed the World (11,863 viewers), Mermaid in Paris (11,525 viewers), and Pandemic (10,987 viewers). New release The Blue Hour (8,207 viewers) and Our Beloved Summer, in its third week, both remained in the 8,000 viewer range. Onward: The Magical Day showed the second highest seat occupancy rate (12.4%) among movies with over 10,000 seats secured but only added 6,762 viewers. Its cumulative audience is 401,618.
