[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] The sweltering heat is unwelcome for golfers.

However, giving up walking on the green grass is not an option. The places that attract passionate golfers amid the heat are golf courses equipped with the latest lighting facilities and open for night play. Night golf is especially appealing in the summer. It allows players to escape the heat, sweat alongside companions while creating precious memories, and then blow away accumulated stress by drinking a cool beer right after the round. This is the secret to happy night golf.

First, a spray to repel mosquitoes and other insects is necessary. Most golf courses in Korea are built in mountainous terrain. Due to trees and grass, there are many bugs. It gets worse at night when the lights are on. Usually, insect repellent sprays are separately prepared in the carts, but it is good to be prepared just in case. Spraying before the round can be effective. Recently, clip-on mosquito repellents, portable bands, and necklaces have also been released.

Although it is summer, it can feel cold in the mountains. The temperature drops about 5 degrees compared to daytime. Shorts and short skirts are a no-go. Bringing a windbreaker or long-sleeved clothes is also wise. Thanks to the densely lit lighting, the fairway is brightly illuminated, but the ball is not as clearly visible as during the day. This is why you need to put colored balls such as yellow and orange in your caddy bag. If you miss the fairway, it is not easy to find the ball. Prepare enough balls with excellent visibility.

A golfer who uses colored balls said, "The flying trajectory is clear, which improves concentration," and praised, "Even if the ball goes into the rough or out-of-bounds (OB) area, it stands out." Golf equipment companies such as Volvik, Titleist, Callaway, and Srixon have released balls suitable for night rounds. Fluorescent-finished tees are necessary, and a rangefinder is essential. Many products equipped with LCD screens are useful at night when the pin is hard to see.

At night, the air feels heavy. Remember that in the humid summer, the distance the ball travels decreases. When choosing clubs, allow about one club more than usual. Keep your shots compact. The greens also do not roll well due to night dew. Putts require a stronger stroke than during the day. When focused on play, hunger naturally arises. Snacks such as bananas, bread, and cookies are needed. If you have to go to work the next morning, it is better to avoid caffeinated drinks like coffee.

Golf courses offer various services to ensure a cool round for visitors. Ice water, ice packs, and towels are free. Green fees are about 70-80% of weekday rates. Some places allow play without a caddie, increasing cost-effectiveness. You can enjoy the cool outdoor breeze while watching the evening sunset, with the sounds of birds, insects, water, and wind as a bonus. Night golf is perfect for wiping away the weariness of daily life and recharging your energy.
