Signed MOU for Joint Future City Project with Buk-gu
Developing and Integrating Diverse Cultural Content Based on Storytelling

Dongseo University Completely Transforms Busan's 'Gupo' Dongseo University and Buk-gu, Busan signed a memorandum of understanding on the urban regeneration New Deal project on the 22nd.


[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Dongseo University has stepped into the New Deal project to regenerate the Gupo-dong area in Buk-gu, Busan into a new city.


On the 22nd, the Dongseo University LINC+ (Leaders in Industry-university Cooperation) Project Group announced on the 23rd that it signed an MOU with the Buk-gu Office of Busan at Dongseo University’s New Millennium Hall to jointly carry out the ‘Buk-gu Newtro Future City I:Eum Culture Project.’


Dongseo University, which is promoting specialization in cultural contents, will jointly carry out the ‘Buk-gu Newtro Future City I:Eum Culture Project’ based on the ‘Gupo I:Eum Urban Regeneration New Deal Project’ currently underway in Buk-gu, Busan through this MOU.


The Dongseo University LINC+ Project Group has established various detailed plans including ‘Storytelling Research and Production for Newtro Future City,’ ‘Design of Buk-gu Cultural Spaces for Community Innovation,’ ‘Creative Design with Residents,’ ‘Immersive IoT AR Content for Realizing Gupo Manse Street,’ ‘Development of Pet-Friendly City Characters for Creating a New Face of Buk-gu,’ ‘Local Value Restoration Video Project,’ and ‘Buk-gu Regional Branding Design and Design Consulting, and Development of Buk-gu Storytelling Musical.’


The two organizations will form the ‘I:Eum Culture Cluster’ and jointly carry out the project until the end of 2023.


Professor Kim Su-hwa, the overall director of this project, said, “This is an opportunity to plant Dongseo University’s creativity in the local community,” and added, “I hope Gupo will become a hot place in Busan through this long-term project with Buk-gu.”


He added, “Dongseo University’s creative power based on 4th Industrial Revolution technologies will make Buk-gu a tourism hub leading commerce, culture, and arts in the western Busan area.”


Jang Je-guk, president of Dongseo University, said, “We plan to support this project with the university’s internal infrastructure and technological capabilities in the convergent fields of design, film and video, IT, New Media, and Mechatronics,” and added, “We will devote efforts to revitalizing the local culture and economy of Buk-gu, the original downtown of Busan.”


Jung Myung-hee, mayor of Buk-gu, said, “We have high expectations as we have signed the first MOU for the cultural city Buk-gu creation project with Dongseo University, connected through Gupo Beer, a good success model of public-private-academic cooperation.”
