Inspections conducted from the 22nd of last month to the 8th of this month on 842 businesses that manufacture 'vegan' (strict vegetarianism avoiding animal-based foods) products and sell food through home shopping, department stores, and franchises found 10 businesses violating the Food Sanitation Act. The main violations included ▲violation of hygienic handling standards (4 places) ▲failure to conduct self-quality inspections (3 places) ▲unreported business operations (1 place) ▲failure to report product manufacturing (1 place) ▲failure to prepare raw material receipt and issue records (1 place), among others.

For the businesses found in violation, the relevant local governments will take administrative actions and conduct follow-up inspections within three months to verify improvements.

Some rice cakes, liquid teas, and mixed beverages sold through home shopping exceeded bacterial count standards. The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety tested 306 home shopping food products and confirmed that six rice cake products exceeded the standards. These products have been recalled and disposed of.
