About 200 residents from cities, counties, and districts nationwide suffering noise damage from military facilities attended, with senior research fellow Kang Moonsoo from the Korea Legislation Research Institute serving as the chair. Presentations were given by Lee Junho, deputy general manager of Korea Airports Corporation, and Park Younghwan, president of the Korea Aircraft Noise Association.
Furthermore, members of various local councils participated as discussants, offering diverse opinions.
Before the discussion, the 16 heads of organizations belonging to the Military Noise Damage Council and members of the National Assembly adopted a joint statement urging the establishment of laws ensuring fairness in compensation and support for civilian aviation, and signed a petition.
This petition will be delivered to the Ministry of National Defense by Pyeongtaek City as the representative.
Kim Samho, mayor of Gwangsan District and vice chairman of the Military Noise Damage Council, said, “For over half a century, residents suffering from military noise damage have had their fundamental rights severely infringed upon in the name of national security.
