[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seungro Lee, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, is drawing attention with his 'special OUT order.'
On the 14th, Seungro Lee posted on his personal SNS the phrase 'Athlete Violence OUT,' asking for residents' interest and cooperation.
Seungro Lee, who actively communicates with residents through SNS, expressed his feelings, saying, “The tragic choice of the late athlete Choi Sook-hyun is heartbreaking not only as the mayor representing the autonomous district's administration but also as a father.” He also stated that Seongbuk-gu, which operates workplace sports teams in fencing and kendo, is taking this matter seriously.
The mayor announced that he held an Athlete Violence OUT meeting to create an environment where athletes belonging to Seongbuk-gu can demonstrate their abilities healthily while being guaranteed human rights.
The meetings were held on the 10th and 14th by team, with fencing team coach Sangwon Seo and five athletes, and kendo team coach Jinbeom Kim and twelve athletes participating, agreeing to unite their hearts to make 'Athlete Violence OUT in Seongbuk-gu.'
The mayor also revealed plans to cooperate with schools in Seongbuk-gu that operate sports teams to take the lead in eliminating violence by coaches against student athletes and protecting human rights, asking for the interest and cooperation of the sports community, administration, and residents for the 'Beautiful OUT of Seongbuk-gu.'
Residents also showed support for the mayor's post. Mr. Jeonggil Kim expressed support, saying, “It is a very bad inheritance and one of the things that must be eradicated quickly.”
Also, Ms. Suin Lee said, “The late athlete Choi Sook-hyun felt like a daughter, so my heart hurts deeply,” and added, “The interest of the Seongbuk-gu mayor will be a great help in eradicating athlete violence,” showing encouragement.
Mr. Wonho Kim strengthened the message with a comment, “Continuous interest and consideration for the weak nurture a healthy society.” Mr. Jongrak Lee pointed out the culture of “turning a blind eye to violence for good results within performance-oriented thinking.”
