Performance at Daehakro Hyehwa-dong 1beonji from July 23 to August 2
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Byung-hee] Theater company Partner will perform the play 'Office' from July 23 to August 2 at Hyehwa-dong 1beonji in Daehak-ro.
The protagonist of 'Office,' 'Sebum,' is a freelance writer working with a company newsletter publisher. Through Sebum's story, the play poses questions to the audience about modern people's thoughts, self-esteem, identity, and survival.
In the reality where the production of company newsletters is outsourced, Sebum, who works as a freelancer subcontracted by the outsourcing company, writes and takes photos but cannot write about what he is curious about or wants. He only writes from the perspective of the newsletter company that gave him the work and the corporation that gave work to that company. Within predetermined questions and answers, Sebum gradually loses his own thoughts and answers, and the newsletter company’s CEO, the corporate PR staff, and interviewees surrounding Sebum increasingly confuse him. Through the story of a freelancer wandering without an office set against the backdrop of an office, it shows the image of modern people who lose their right to think and whose identity and survival are threatened in numerous situations.
'Office' is selected for performance under the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture's 'Emergency Arts Support for COVID-19 Damage.'
The script was written by playwright Hwang Jeong-eun, who wrote 'White Termites in the Desert,' selected in the 2018 Seoul City Theater Company regular performance original script contest, and directed by Shin Jae-hoon, a 6th generation member of Hyehwa-dong 1beonji and director of Escape's 'Othello and Iago' and 'The Three Generations' 판.
