Jegi-dong Seoul Yakryeongsi Korean Medicine Museum Receives Excellent Certification in 'Public Museum Evaluation and Accreditation System'
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol) announced that the Seoul Yakryeongsi Korean Medicine Museum was selected as an excellent certified institution in the ‘2019 Public Museum Evaluation and Certification System’ organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
The ‘2019 Public Museum Evaluation and Certification System’ evaluated 227 public museums operated by local governments nationwide over the past two years (2017?2018) based on ▲achievement of establishment purposes ▲appropriateness of organization, personnel, facilities, and financial management ▲thoroughness of data collection and management ▲performance in holding exhibitions and conducting educational programs.
In this evaluation, the Seoul Yakryeongsi Korean Medicine Museum received high marks for its diverse collection of artifacts preserving traditional Korean medicine culture and for various themed exhibitions such as the ▲Special Exhibition of Minhwa (Korean folk paintings) ▲Donation Materials Exhibition ▲1990s Photo Exhibition showcasing the development of Seoul Yakryeongsi.
It was also highly evaluated for operating a variety of tailored educational programs for infants, adults, families, and schools, leading to its selection as an excellent certified institution.
By being selected as an excellent certified institution in the ‘Public Museum Evaluation and Certification System,’ the Seoul Korean Medicine Museum has gained the qualification to apply for national funding when necessary for museum expansion, remodeling, and other operational needs.
The Seoul Yakryeongsi Korean Medicine Museum is currently closed due to COVID-19, but residents interested in traditional Korean medicine can obtain various information through online platforms and social media (blog, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook).
Yoo Deok-yeol, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, “The Seoul Yakryeongsi Korean Medicine Museum received a good evaluation by being recognized for the excellence of its traditional Korean medicine exhibitions and educational programs,” and added, “We will continue to support the museum to receive excellent evaluations by leveraging the regional characteristic of having the largest Korean medicine market in Korea.”
