[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Lee Chang-woo) will open and officially operate the ‘Integrated Support Center for Families in Crisis’ (hereinafter referred to as the Center) on the 20th to discover and support families in crisis such as domestic violence and abuse.

On the same day, the district will sign a business agreement with Dongjak Police Station to establish a cooperative network for discovering welfare blind spots and preventing recurrence of crises in families.

Under this agreement, the district will be responsible for ▲establishing and operating the Center ▲supporting professional personnel (integrated case managers, counselors), while Dongjak Police Station will handle ▲sharing information on families in crisis ▲professional response combined with public security capabilities.

The newly established ‘Dongjak-gu Integrated Support Center for Families in Crisis’ is located on the 3rd floor of the annex building of the district office (161 Jangseungbaegi-ro) and operates from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays.

The Center has one abuse prevention police officer, one integrated case manager, and two professional counselors with welfare-related experience on duty at all times.

The main role is that the abuse prevention police officer takes initial action on cases reported to 112 such as domestic violence and shares cases of families in crisis with the Integrated Support Center with the consent of the reporter, then jointly visits with the integrated case manager to support families in crisis.

Professional counselors conduct telephone counseling for victims who agree to be connected to the Center for a full survey.

The integrated case manager links the identified counseling data to specialized counseling services in various fields such as legal consultation through public resources and private specialized institutions so that the household can receive support.

The district expects that through the operation of the Integrated Support Center for Families in Crisis, it will accumulate and utilize a database necessary for support in violence, abuse, welfare, medical care, education, etc., and focus more on post-management to prevent recurrence after incidents.

For more details, inquiries can be made to the Welfare Policy Division of Dongjak-gu Office.

Yoo Won-sik, head of the Welfare Policy Division, said, “Through the operation of the Dongjak-gu Integrated Support Center for Families in Crisis, we will actively discover families in crisis suffering from domestic violence and strive to provide customized integrated service support,” adding, “We will continue to work hard to realize Dongjak-gu as a welfare city where everyone is respected by building a more solid care safety net.”
