[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] President Donald Trump has stopped using Twitter. Not only President Trump, but also his wife Melania, daughter Ivanka, and eldest son Eric have all simultaneously ceased tweeting. This move is interpreted as a response to the large-scale hacking incident of celebrities' Twitter accounts that occurred the day before.

On the 16th (local time), President Trump did not post anything on his Twitter. His last tweet was posted after 11 p.m. the previous night, expressing "complete and total support" and thanking the National Association of Police Organizations (NAPO) and 241,000 brave law enforcement members.

This is in stark contrast to his usual frequent tweeting. Recently, President Trump had been disparaging Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Joe Biden through Twitter, but on this day, there was not a single such instance.

His wife Melania and daughter Ivanka also did not post any tweets that day. Ivanka had recently posted a tweet that seemed to promote a food company that faced backlash after defending President Trump.

President Trump's second son Eric is also quiet. He had been focusing on attacking Biden through tweets, but his Twitter timeline was silent on this day.

On the other hand, Vice President Mike Pence, the White House, and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo were tweeting normally that day.

President Trump's tweets, which have been a direct communication channel to the public while dismissing mainstream media reports as fake news, have wielded influence enough to shake global politics and economics since his inauguration, so attention is focused on whether this suspension will continue.

Regarding this, White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany explained at the daily briefing that "the president will maintain his Twitter account." This indicated that the account itself would not be deleted due to the hacking aftermath.

The Trump family has not stopped their social network service (SNS) activities. President Trump focused on attacking former Vice President Biden on Facebook that day.

Meanwhile, according to U.S. media, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has launched an investigation into the Twitter hacking incident. Twitter announced as an additional response measure that it would freeze accounts that attempted password changes within the past 30 days.
