‘Dong-gu Dalbit Georeum’ Opens Possibility for Successful Night Tourism

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Im Taek) canceled offline performances on the 2nd and switched to online for the Gwangju Cultural Heritage Night Tour ‘Dong-gu Moonlight Walk,’ showcasing new content using light and media, opening the possibility of successful nighttime tourism in the National Asia Culture Center area.

According to Dong-gu on the 16th, the Gwangju Cultural Heritage Night Tour ‘Dong-gu Moonlight Walk,’ selected for the Cultural Heritage Administration’s cultural heritage utilization project for four consecutive years, is a representative nighttime tourism event that utilizes the city nightscape experienced through eight themes called ‘8 Nights (8-ya)’ linked to Dong-gu’s cultural heritage.

This program was composed of online concerts featuring performances such as ▲ Four-person four-color humanities lectures ▲ Documentary theater ▲ Music reading plays, along with offline exhibition programs.

Among them, the special exhibition ‘Cloud Fish’ by installation artist Pyo Gu-cheol and the May sculpture ‘Candle of Resurrection’ by artist Choi Jae-deok, conducted in strict compliance with the social distancing level 2 guidelines, offered a special time to view hidden nighttime landscapes in the city in line with the small-scale performance trend of COVID-19 around cultural heritage sites such as Seoseok Elementary School and the old Jeonnam Provincial Office.

In particular, Pyo Gu-cheol’s ‘Cloud Fish,’ installed in the bamboo garden of the ACC affiliated parking lot, with the subtitle ‘Life is Light,’ visualizes the imagination of meeting the seed of dreams, embracing dreams, and soaring high into the sky, transforming the simple pedestrian path in the bamboo forest into a new path of culture and healing.

Also, the ‘Gwangju Cultural Heritage Night Tour V-Log,’ which allows people to experience cultural heritage sites such as ACC, the old Jeonnam Provincial Office, and Seoseok Elementary School that emit new beauty with moonlight at night online, was produced, receiving praise for presenting a new model of non-face-to-face untact tourism in the post-COVID-19 era.

Im Taek, Mayor of Dong-gu, said, “These days, as we strictly follow strong social distancing to prevent COVID-19 infection, you will be able to experience future-oriented cultural tourism through the Gwangju Cultural Heritage Night Tour V-Log video,” and added, “I hope you experience new media nighttime tourism using Gwangju’s cultural heritage and light scattered around the Culture Center area through the combined online and offline programs.”
