[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun stated on the 16th regarding the death of the late athlete Choi Sook-hyun, "With the determination that this will be the last time, we must make institutional improvements to break the vicious cycle and reform the entire sports community."
At the 110th Government Policy Coordination Meeting held at the Government Seoul Office that day, Prime Minister Chung said, "The death of athlete Choi has caused public outrage and sorrow nationwide."
He emphasized, "The harsh treatment itself is shocking, but what angers the public the most is that despite Choi's report, no responsible agency took remedial action for four months."
He continued, "Despite measures announced last January to eradicate corruption in sports, the culture of performance-centrism and the closed nature of the sports world have led to the continuous repetition of bad practices on the ground."
Regarding the promotion policy of Hallyu, Prime Minister Chung said, "It is necessary to establish proactive and bold regulatory reforms and support infrastructure to combine 5G technology and innovative content with Hallyu to capture the global market," adding, "We will meet with related industries soon to discuss regulatory reform plans."
On the introduction of fuel subsidies for commercial hydrogen vehicles, he said, "Since the high price of hydrogen fuel compared to other fuels is a burden, we have prepared a plan to introduce fuel subsidies for commercial hydrogen vehicles," and urged, "The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and related ministries should work on follow-up measures such as revising relevant laws and expanding infrastructure including charging stations."
