[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The industrial, academic, and public sectors in the Busan area have come together to revitalize tourism in Busan.

On the 15th, Kim Jeong-seon, Executive Vice President of Dongseo University, Park Young-tae, Director of Busan Transportation Corporation, Im Yong-mook, Director of Busan Tourism Organization, and Jo Yoon-mi, Head of the Busan-Ulsan Branch of the Korea Tourism Organization, held the ‘Busan Tourism Supporters Nubinubi 5th Launch Ceremony’ at Dongseo University Centum Campus with 32 tourism supporters and declared the start of supporter activities.

Divided into a total of eight teams, this Nubinubi Busan Tourism Supporters group was selected through a fierce competition in a public audition held on July 8. Going forward, they will travel throughout Busan to discover and refine local tourism resources, promote them globally, and take the lead in improving hospitality readiness.

In particular, the ‘Nubinubi 5th’ will operate in a problem-solving manner focused on key tasks assigned by each institution to address current issues in Busan tourism, aiming to revitalize the Busan tourism sector, which has been stagnant due to COVID-19.

The Busan Tourism Organization was assigned the task of developing Muslim-friendly tourism programs; the Korea Tourism Organization was tasked with promoting tourism content in the western Busan area, including Jangnim Port, and checking hospitality readiness; and the Busan Transportation Corporation was given the task of promoting tourist sites connected to the urban railway.

Accordingly, the 5th group members will visit tourist sites to carefully inspect the environment, then promote the charm of Busan tourism that can expand into a world-class tourist destination through SNS, propose alternatives, and carry out activities to expand tourism demand in the Busan area after COVID-19.

Professor Kim Bong-gi of the Department of Tourism at Dongseo University said, “The tourism industry is facing difficulties due to the adverse effects of COVID-19, but at times like this, an industry-academia-government cooperation model for developing local tourism competitiveness is urgently needed,” adding, “The students’ enthusiasm is higher than expected, so we expect them to contribute to establishing Busan as a world-class tourist city.”
