KOSPI, Early Trading Flat Around 2200 Level

[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] The KOSPI and KOSDAQ indices are showing a flat trend in the early trading session.


On the 16th, the KOSPI opened at 2203.30, up 1.42 points (0.06%) from the previous trading day. The KOSPI, which started higher, is showing mixed movements in the early session, fluctuating around the 2200 level. As of 9:15 AM, it is recorded at 2200.75, down 1.13 points (0.05%) from the previous day.


Overnight, major U.S. New York stock indices rose due to expectations for the COVID-19 vaccine and strong bank earnings. On the 15th (local time) at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 26,870.10, up 227.51 points (0.85%) from the previous close. The Standard & Poor's (S&P) 500 index rose 29.04 points (0.91%) to 3,226.56, and the tech-heavy Nasdaq index closed at 10,550.49, up 61.91 points (0.59%).


Looking at the current trading trends by investor type, foreign and institutional investors are net sellers of 31.4 billion KRW and 47.9 billion KRW respectively. In contrast, individual investors are net buyers of 75.4 billion KRW.


By sector, securities, construction, and insurance are rising, while pharmaceuticals, services, and electrical/electronics are declining.


Among the top market capitalization stocks, Samsung SDI, LG Household & Health Care, and LG Chem are slightly up. On the other hand, NCSoft, Kakao, NAVER, Samsung C&T, and Samsung Biologics are declining.


Currently, in the KOSPI market, 488 stocks are rising without any hitting the upper limit, 320 stocks are falling without any hitting the lower limit, and 84 stocks are unchanged.


The KOSDAQ index is also showing mixed movements around the 780 level. The KOSDAQ opened at 783.24, up 1.95 points (0.25%) from the previous day, but as of 9:15 AM, it is recorded at 781.47, down 0.18 points (0.02%).


Regarding the current supply and demand, similar to the KOSPI market, foreign and institutional investors are net sellers of 44.9 billion KRW and 57.9 billion KRW respectively, while individual investors are net buyers of 135.7 billion KRW.


By sector, paper & wood, telecommunications equipment, and transportation equipment & parts are rising, while others are declining.


Among the top market capitalization stocks, Kolmar BNH, Seegene, HLB, and Studio Dragon are rising. Conversely, Pearl Abyss, Celltrion Pharm, Genexine, and Lino Industrial are declining.


Currently, in the KOSDAQ market, 603 stocks are rising without any hitting the upper limit, 562 stocks are falling without any hitting the lower limit, and 133 stocks are unchanged.
