Lee Jae-myung "Illegal Activities Are Not Allowed in Gyeonggi-do"... Warning Against Illegal Fishing in Namhangang and Others

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Following Governor Lee Jae-myung of Gyeonggi Province returning clean valleys and rivers to the residents, he has now issued a strong warning against illegal large-scale inland water fishing activities within the province.

On the 15th, Governor Lee posted on Facebook under the title "No Illegal Activities in Gyeonggi Province," stating, "Rules are our collective agreement for everyone," and emphasized, "Whether it is a valley, the sea, or inland waters, established rules must be followed."

He continued, "Gaining benefits by breaking the rules forces unfair losses on the majority of law-abiding residents," and stressed, "The first step to creating a fair world without grievances is to follow the rules."

He also added, "Despite sufficient prior notice warning against violations, if illegal activities continue, strict accountability will be enforced."

Earlier, over the two months of May and June, Gyeonggi Province conducted crackdowns on unauthorized and unreported fishing, illegal fishing gear use and storage, and violations of fishing order in large-scale inland waters such as the Imjin River, Hantan River, Namhan River, and Bukhan River within the province, resulting in the detection of a total of five legal violations across four cities and counties.

Among the violations, those who exceeded the prohibited capture size were subject to judicial action, while administrative measures were taken against three cases of fishing using motorized engines and one case of fishing using cast nets.

Additionally, a total of 51 fishing gear items were collected and disposed of, including 14 illegal fishing nets and 37 abandoned nets. Furthermore, two species of illegally caught aquatic products, including Ssogari (Korean perch) and freshwater crabs, were released back into the waters.

The province plans to continue joint crackdowns on illegal fishing with city and county governments in the second half of the year.

Meanwhile, the province has designated and is enforcing prohibited capture periods for eel (from October 1 to March 31 of the following year) and freshwater snails (from December 1 to February 28 of the following year).
