United Future Party Public Administration Committee Members: "Police Must Disclose to the Public How the Complaint Against Late Mayor Park Was Leaked"

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Members of the Future United Party's Administrative Safety Committee urged the police to disclose to the public the circumstances under which the complaint regarding the sexual harassment allegations against the late Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon was leaked.

On the 15th, the committee members issued a statement saying, "While the police and the Blue House have acknowledged the leak of the complaint filed by the woman who was sexually harassed by the Seoul Mayor, they have consistently remained unresponsive to the demands from the public and the National Assembly for a detailed explanation of the reporting procedures and progress."

The committee pointed out that the police's illegal leak of investigation details related to the sexual harassment complaint against the Seoul Mayor to the Blue House is considered a violation of Article 127 of the Criminal Act (Disclosure of Official Secrets), Article 47 (Non-disclosure Provisions), and Article 198 Paragraph 2 (Confidentiality Provisions) of the Criminal Procedure Act.

They stated, "The police must clearly and transparently disclose to the public the circumstances of the leak related to the complaint at that time," and added, "The police should not close the investigation citing the loss of prosecution rights but should actively conduct the investigation considering the victim's severe mental distress and the demands of the public, or if that is impossible, immediately transfer the case to the prosecution."

Furthermore, they urged, "The government and ruling party must immediately cease political judgments and actively cooperate with the National Assembly's requests for document submission and witness attendance in accordance with the National Assembly Act and the Act on Testimony and Inspection in the National Assembly," adding, "They should actively work to uncover the truth regarding the sexual harassment allegations against former Mayor Park, which is a matter of national interest."
