Jeonnam Province Supports Independence for 'Youth Aging Out of Protection'

Do-Samsung Electronics-Social Welfare Community Chest MOU

Jeonnam Province Supports Independence for 'Youth Aging Out of Protection'

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Province (Governor Kim Young-rok) announced on the 15th that it has signed a business agreement with Samsung Electronics and the Community Chest of Korea to promote the ‘Independent Integrated Support Project for Youth Aging Out of Protection’.

At the signing ceremony held at the Sarangui Yeolmae Hall in Seoul, Song Sang-rak, Vice Governor of Jeonnam Province, Sung In-hee, President of Samsung Corporate Citizenship, and Yae Jong-seok, Chairman of the Community Chest of Korea, attended to share the project details and sign the agreement.

Under this agreement, Samsung Electronics will provide 5 billion KRW in funding over three years during the pilot project period for independent integrated support for youth aging out of protection, while the Community Chest of Korea will establish project guidelines and manage the operation of executing organizations.

This project was established to address the issue of children and youth in the national protection system?such as child care facilities, group homes, and foster care?being thrust into society without sufficient preparation.

Currently, the number of protected children in the province stands at 2,510, ranking third nationwide. Although the welfare needs of these children are high, the supply system is not smooth, making it difficult to provide adequate welfare services.

Additionally, due to regional characteristics, child welfare facilities are widely distributed across each city and county, resulting in excessive time and costs for project implementation.

Jeonnam Province plans to establish two independent support centers in the eastern and western regions to provide stable independence support for youth aging out of protection in Jeonnam, offering services tailored to the needs of protected children such as housing and education training.

Song Sang-rak, Vice Governor of Jeonnam Province, said, “Through this business agreement, the public and private sectors will build a close cooperative system to successfully promote the Independent Integrated Support Project for Youth Aging Out of Protection. Jeonnam Province will strive to play a pivotal role in providing professional and integrated independence services for youth aging out of protection.”
